Pilates comparison
Mat Pilates or reformer Pilates: where should you start?
Mat and reformer Pilates teach the same foundations: breathing, control, alignment and deliberate movement. The difference is how resistance and support are provided. At Hae Studio, Pilates is taught on the reformer and the mat classes are yoga, so this guide compares the two formats you can actually book here.

Guide
Mat Pilates
Mat Pilates uses body weight and gravity. It builds awareness without relying on a machine and is easy to continue at home. Hae Studio does not run a mat Pilates class. The classes on the mat here are yoga: Hatha and Yin are listed at beginner level, Gentle and Stretch are open to all, and every mat class is 60 minutes.
Guide
Reformer Pilates
The reformer uses springs, a carriage, straps and a footbar. Springs can add resistance, but they can also support a movement. This makes the reformer useful for both challenging strong students and helping beginners learn with assistance. At Hae, Foundation Pilates is the reformer class listed at beginner level, where you learn to use the machine before the other formats.

How to choose
Choose a mat yoga class if you prefer a simple setup, want a lower entry price or want movement you can continue at home without equipment. Choose reformer Pilates if you enjoy guided machine work, want adjustable resistance or prefer a smaller group around dedicated equipment.
There is no requirement to master one before trying the other. Many students do both, and the timetable shows reformer and mat classes side by side.

Questions
Before you book
Is reformer Pilates harder than mat Pilates?
Not automatically. Spring settings and movement range change the difficulty. Either format can be gentle or challenging.
Can beginners join both?
Yes. Tell the instructor you are new so the class can begin with the appropriate setup and pace. On the reformer, start with Foundation Pilates; on the mat, Hatha Yoga and Yin Yoga are the beginner level classes.
Which costs less?
Mat yoga. A mat drop-in at Hae Studio is RM50 and a reformer drop-in is RM60. Current prices and packages are published on the packages page.
